Welcome to Headfirst Magazine

The simple purpose of Headfirst Magazine is to share information with endurance athletes in the area.

Over the years I have noticed that athletes can become members of very tight groups.  The problem with that is we often get so caught up in our particular group that we don’t see the other opportunities we have outside that group.  The prime example of that is the fact that many athletes who compete in iron distance triathlons have never run a marathon.  They tend to hang out with other triathletes and never venture out of that group.  If they had more opportunity to learn from marathoners it may help them with their races.

There are also those people who are looking for a new challenge and don’t know where to look.  Some transitions seem very natural.  Mountain bike and cyclocross racers may very well love trail running.  The reverse is also true.  Triathletes may enjoy competing on a Masters Swim Team, but know nothing about it.  High school runners may want to know groups they can train with in the summer. It is a long list of benefits to be realized by opening up the conversation with all the local endurance athletes.

There are several ways we will try to achieve this.  There will be articles written by local athletes, coaches, trainers, and other people with helpful information.   We will have a forum in which you can ask questions and talk about the things that are important to you.  There will be a race calendar with all types of events.  Reviews will include races, equipment, food, and anything else someone may want to write a review for.
We will also have links to news articles of what is going on in endurance sports around the world.  I would encourage everyone to check out not only what is going on in their sport, but in others as well.  You may be surprised at what you end up enjoying.  I have always considered myself a runner first and then a triahtlete, but as a fan I enjoy professional cycling much more than the sports I compete in.

My name is Todd Heady and I have had the habit of jumping into things headfirst.  The name of the company is both a play on my name and an accurate description of how most things in my life are done.  This magazine is no different.  I start it out with no knowledge of what I am doing.  I am not a wordsmith, I can’t spell and I have no idea how to do a cool website.  That is where this becomes as much your magazine as mine.  If you have an idea on how to make this better let me know.  If you have a great idea for an article or would like to write one yourself contact me.  If you just ran a race, bought a bike or a new pair of shoes, and want to do a review to let everyone know how great they are feel free.
