Headfirst Magazine Road Race

Kentucky State Championship

As most of the competitive cyclist know the State Championship Road Race planned for Red River Gorge was canceled due to lack of sponsorship.  The Headfirst Magazine Road Race, formerly the Waddy Road Race, will now be the Kentucky State Championship.

The race will take place on June 19th starting at the Waddy Ruritan club on Kings Highway.  The course is a 10 mile loop with rolling hills and one significant climb.  Veterans should find the course acceptably challenging and new racers should find it very doable.  Total distances will be based on category.

The finish line will be managed by 2 Wheel Sports, who always do an outstanding job with the races they work.  Main Street Bikes will be on site to help with any maintenance and anything you may have forgotten.

State Championship Medals will be awarded to the winners in all categories.  Prize money will be offered in certain categories.   There will be an actual awards ceremony after the juniors have finished, and another after the older racers are done.   We will have the grill fired up and food will be provided for the athletes.  Spectators will have the opportunity to purchase food.  We will have music.

Remember sponsors and participants are the only revenue a race gets.  In the current economic situation sponsors are not easy to find, so the future of local races is up to you.  If you support the local races they go on year after year.  The more athletes that support the races the more prize money that can be offered as well as other frills.  When you do a well sponsored race, be sure and support those sponsors.
